What verification actually requires

Spotify's student discount in Australia is verified through SheerID, not by Spotify directly. Have one of these ready:

• A current student ID card showing your name, institution and a date
• An enrolment confirmation letter or your CoE
• A transcript or fee statement dated within the current period

A .edu.au email address alone does not always pass - SheerID often asks for a document as well. Take a photograph in good light with all four corners visible; cropped or dark images are the most common rejection reason.

Verification lasts 12 months and must be renewed each year, for a maximum of four years.

Who is eligible

You need to be enrolled at an accredited higher education institution in Australia. That includes universities and most degree-granting providers. It generally excludes:

• ELICOS and standalone English language courses
• Short courses and non-award study
• Most VET and TAFE certificate courses, depending on the provider's accreditation status

If your provider is not on the SheerID list, the verification will fail regardless of your documents.

If you live in a sharehouse, a Family plan split between housemates is usually cheaper per person than the student rate - Spotify requires everyone to be at the same address, which a sharehouse legitimately satisfies.

Common problems and fixes

Verification keeps failing. Use a document with your full legal name exactly as it appears on your Spotify account. Nicknames and shortened names cause mismatches.

I was charged the full price. The discount applies from the next billing cycle after verification, not retroactively. Verify before your renewal date.

My account is in another country. Spotify pricing is tied to the country of your payment method. If you signed up at home and are now studying in Australia, change your country in account settings using an Australian payment method first, then verify.

My renewal reminder never arrived. Set a calendar reminder yourself 11 months out. Spotify silently reverts you to full price if verification lapses.
